This book starts out when Nate the Great loses his dog, Sludge. He usually goes to work with Sludge but this time he can't because Sludge IS the mystery. Later on, Nate the Great sees his friend Annie. Annie told him that she saw Sludge, and all about what Sludge did. Nate finds Sludge in the pancake department of the mall. He tells Sludge he is a very good dog because he knows that Nate the Great needs pancakes to think.
This was a very good book!
